Marshall actually tried hard in his classes.
He remembered some of what he learned in the journals that jinx gave him but he often found himself still struggling here and there.
He was good at science and he wasn’t all that bad at English but he was a bit terrible at math.
None of it made sense to him. Because of his carefree school life he was flunking and it was all of his fault. He fell behind and now he needed his tutor to help him catch up.
He didn’t like her all that much but she couldn’t have been that bad.
But that bruise… he wondered about it. He was sure it was probably nothing.Jinx worked through her last class of the day.
Concentrating though not on her work but coming up with problem sets for Marshall to do during their study session today.
She felt joy out of finally having power, but all at once she felt bad for him. Though she had no reason to feel bad, since they met all he had been to her was a bully. Pushed her into puddles. Pulled her hair. Pranked her, occasionally they had a fist fight and he usually won. Though he was more a fan of tripping her and pushing her as well as name calling, in front of others.
She should hate him. But she didn’t. He wasn’t like her parents.
Her parents left her physically and emotionally beaten and bruised and hurt. Scars and black bruises lined her back, arms, and even her ribs and legs.Marshall stared at the clock with the pencil in his mouth as he awaited for the class to end.
He inwardly slapped himself as he forced himself to listen to the teacher about what the class had been doing for that day.
He had gone months without payinf attention and the class was so far up he couldn’t even understand the basics. It was like the teacher spoke another language. He was too far behind.
Marshall didn’t pay mind to his way and how mean he was to Jinx. To be honest he couldn’t even figure out why he was so mean to her in the first place.
Was it because secretly deep down he thought she was pretty and liked her?NO WAY it couldn’t be that.
Marshall refused to believe that. She was a goody two shoes and she was a nerd and he didn’t like people like that. He especially didn’t like that she felt she had power over hin because she was his tutor…. but he wanted to stay in the band and perform at homecoming. So he had to suck it up, despite it sucking so hard for him.
Marshall jumped at the sudden bell ring and he sighed.
He gathered all of his books and papers and slowly ventured out of the classroom and blinked a few times as he began to make his way to the library where he was supposed to meet Jinxie.
He was a little bummed that all of his friends would be at practice playing their music for the show without him while he was stuck studying with the last person on earth he’d like to be with but it was worth it.
He was hoping it would pick up soon and he wouldn’t have to do this anymore.Jinx heard the bell ring and packed her things. Flash backs and memories filled her head as she walked to the library. She had made about 4 individual sheets front to back written problems. She had already solved them in her head and wrote the answers separately on their own singular sheet.
As she wandered down the crowded halls. She moved against the crowd. Her hair swaying back and forth clinging close to her bag as she ducked her head.
She always wondered why Marshall picked on her. Out of all people. But then again, her first day meeting him she had met him earlier In their sixth grade math class and actually were talking and getting along.
But when lunch came, a kid tripped her, her tray of food spilling onto Marshall. He got pretty mad about it. He’d started to bully her since.
She had always blamed herself. Felt bad she made such an embarrassment of him when they were younger.Marshall sat by the table in the library.
For the first time he was early for something. Even for band practice he was always late.
He tapped his pencil on the top of the table as he waited for Jinx.
He had waited to see what she had planned and hoped that this time around he wouldn’t feel annoyed with her presence.
He pursed his lips upon seeing her in the doorway.
He immediately felt annoyed once more.
But he damned well hoped she had something to help him get his grades up.
Something that would be easier than some stupid journal he had to waste time and study. She saw him as she entered the library.
She lowered her head.
Jinx walked over to him and pulled out a text book, a journal and looked at him.
“So how’d reading the journal go?” She asked as she took a seat, she waited for him to seat too.The room was bright. She could see the dust billow and float in the air as students pulled out books. The musty smell filled the air. And something about Marshall was unsettling. He seemed truly annoyed and couldn’t even tell why
He sat down and looked up at her as she sat down.
He kept his eyes away from her chest that allured him briefly and he shrugged at her questions.
“They did help a little… just was annoyed with all the time i wasted studying it. I even overslept.” He said and yawned at the thought of sleeping again.
He relaxed his shoulders and facial expressions some as he looked down at what she had in her arms.
“What are we gonna be doing today?”
She held up some papers. “These are our next step. It’s sheets with multiple problems through the first three chapters. We will work through these till you understand. And then tonight you need to study chapters four and five!” She explained softly.
Leaning over the table some. Pushing the sheets towards him. Her sweater falling off her bruised shoulder. Her red hair a mess and her glasses slipping down her face. Her platinum eyes flicked from him to the papers.
“Try the first two problems on your own, I’ll watch. Just to see how you do it” she said softly. And then leaned back
