He immediately pulled away from the curb and down the street towards where his house was deep into the woods.
They were safe as the windows were tinted and no one could see them inside.
He couldn’t see her face or the mark on it but he could tell something was wrong.
“What happened?”“Uh….uh, today’s been rough. I was being chased. This is what I get for not having a car or something…..r-right?” She asked and tried to wipe away her tears.
She sighed and looked at him. “I don’t want to talk about it…..please?” She asked. And then turned to look out the windshield. He occasionally glanced back at her between the roads and stop signs before he sighed and gripped the steering wheel even tighter as he noticed the mark on her face.
He had decided to drop it as it was something she had wanted him to do.
They drove for some time in silence before he pulled up in front of a dirt road in the woods. He began to drive into the woods.“My parents own a cottage here… its quiet and safe… I’m sure no one will find us there… and if you ever need to get away from someone you can always go here… I’ll even give you a copy of the key. Don’t hesitate to call me.” He assured.
She looked wide eyed and shocked. “R-really?” She asked him.
“You don’t have to do that” she said still sniffling and struggling to process regular conversation.
He was being so kind to her. Her eyes red and watery. She fiddled her fingersHe pulled up in front of the cottage and slipped out of his car after shutting it off.
He walked over to the other side and opened the door for her helping her out of the car.
He was sure to keep his eyes away from her tear stained face.
“Come. I’ll show you inside.” He said and ledn her to the front door and opened it, ushering her inside
She watched him pull around and help her out of the car. She followed him as he helped her in.
She looked at the inside. And was astounded by it. She kept her head down knowing he’d probably seen her face but she kept her head down, hoping he wouldn’t stare at her.
“I-I’m sorry…..” She whispered to him.
She sniffled softly.
