Marshall looked at Jinx with a nod.
“If you have any further plans to better my performance that would be great. I’m almost confident I’ll pass this time around.”
ocs-and-companyShe still iced her black eye as he asked her this and sighed. “No I don’t have anything else for the moment. Like I said one subject at a time. But you’re right you child be able to pass this test and the final!” She said with a soft smile.
He nodded and sighed with relief.
“Thank you for helping me out.” He said softly and then reached over to pull the ice pack away from her eye and examined. She looked worried and anxious as he looked and examined her eye. She looked down. It was purple almost black. And she sighed.
He brushed his fingers across it carefully.
“Does it still hurt?”She winced as he brushed over it. She turned her face away then breathed out. “I’m sorry……yes it hurts still”
He looked at her with a grimace.
He pulled a few strands of hair away from her face and then sat beside her.
“I won’t let something like that happen to you again.”“Trust me it’s okay. I don’t need to depend on someone to help me. It isn’t the last time. It’s my luck” she said softly and rubbed her arm. “Are you sure it’s okay for me to stay here tonight? Or at all? You don’t have to do that” she said softly.
He smiled.
“I don’t mind if you stay here.” He replied softly. “Stay as long as you need to. Its quiet and we can study here when schools over. I’ll even drop you off at your house to get some clothes.”“Are you absolutely sure?” She asked and looked down. “I don’t know why you’re suddenly so willing to help. I mean no offense but you’ve been bullying me since I first came here…..” She said softly. Shyly
He looked at her with pursed lips.
“You’re not so bad. You were a little annoying at first but you’re helping me out and doing a good job at it. Its the least I can do in return.”“I was annoying?!” She asked. She felt anger inside and frustrated at his statement. “You’re the one who pushed me on the play ground. I had a sprained wrist because of you. You called me names” she said sternly. Standing up. “I was new to the school. I was scared, I didn’t talk much you made fun of me cause I was poor and my hair looked funny being this bright and velvety red.” She said and turned and held her hands in fists.
He looked at her.
“I’m sorry… I was immature then and didn’t really care about the wellbeing for others…but I got to know you and i know there’s more to you.” He said softly.“You mean in the last two days? Remember you took my chair in class the other day. And kept throwing spit balls at me.” She said and looked down though she remained standing and turned away from him. Her fists almost white from tension.
“Yeah. Because you were just as obnoxious that day as i was.” He said with a cocked brow.
“What’s going on with you?”She turned and had tears streak in her face, “why?! WHY AFTER ALL THIS TIME BULLYING ME DO YOU DECIDE TO BE NICE?! Because I’m helping you get through senior year? If that’s the case just keep bullying me.” She yelled some and then calmed.
“My whole life it’s been like this. I don’t want you to give me this “I see the real you now” because I haven’t changed. You could be doing this because I’m your tutor I’m charity!“ She added. He stood up.
“That’s not it at all. I already told you I was immature those days. Usually I mistook you as a stuck up goodie two shoe. Thats just how you came off. We got to talk some even during tutoring and I’ve noticed that you werent what i thought you out to be.” He explained.“A stuck up!? Why?! Because I do my work? It’s because I have nothing else. I can’t do anything but go to school and do my class work!” She cried. She went to cover her face with her hands but the pain in her eye caused her to wince and she started to sob.
He looked at her with a grimace. He didn’t know how to approach her and he sighed, backing off.
“Get some rest.” He said softly. He didn’t want to push anymore buttonsThe only movement she made was an attempt to walk towards him seeing that he looked saddened. But as she stepped the emotions of the day, the bruise on her eye and the pounding in her head caused her to collapse. She fell onto the ground, she was out cold.
He gasped and grabbed for her
He placed her back on the couch, tucked her in and let her restShe slept deeply but couldn’t help but to toss and turn. Her eye still hurt and her head pounded. She cried that night as she slept. Curling into almost a ball.
IN THE MORNING (Saturday)
He left her alone for some time but not without leaving aspirin and a full glass of water waiting for her when she woke.
Hours passed and when she woke up she groggily held her head and groaned. Yawning some and stretching. She rubbed her eyes before she caught notice of the water and aspirin. Taking them both gingerly she then laid back down and curled up. Not wanting to leave the warmth of the blanket though she was curious as to where Marshall had gone.
