Abigail looks around as her vision got better as she kept her arms around her. She heard her questions and worried they might not have the tools she needs to fix her suit. Still, she decided to answer her questions. If it means gaining her trust.
“Would you believe I am not from this world? I am in fact from another alternate world where our technology is so advance you don’t need to use dragons to fly?”
She sat up straighter and turned around, “oh really?” She asked not quite sure she believed her but she wasn’t going to say no either. The something about her was telling Astrid, Abigail may not be lying.
“If that was even the case how did you manage to get yourself here? Hmmm? How did you just so happen to stumble into our universe?” She asked.
“I didn’t stumble here. I sort of got here by accident,” Abigail then explained how she was testing out a device she made that would allow her to go into other worlds. However, she made one calculated mistake and got sucked in this world.
“That is why I need to fix my suit. In case I did get sucked somewhere accidentally I have my suit that I made to help me get back to my world,” the only problem is she needs the right tools for the job and is doubtful this world has one if its in dark ages time.
Astrid nodded trying to wrap her head around the strangers explanation. When she’d finished Astrid looked back at her again, “What kind of tools do you need? Or technology?” She asked her.
Suddenly Snotlout came beside them and groaned, “Astrid why do I have to carry this stupid hunk of junk?!”. Astrid rolled her eyes, “shut up Snotlout. It’s Abigail’s and wed said we’d help her” she retorted and glared at him.
“Also it is not a hunk of junk!” Abigail shouted who didn’t like her things being called junk, especially from someone who clearly doesn’t respect other people’s properties. “I need to see what you have and see if what you have is enough. I can make due with what I have.”
Even though she would normally go to a store to do that. Like how her dad didn’t have any of his equipment and had to make weapons out of modern day stuff from a store. Yet, those items he made were enough to take down a bunch of armed thugs.
Astrid nodded and spoke, “hopefully we can get you situated”.
A COUPLE HOURS LATER
Astrid, Abigail and Snotlout finally made it to berk. As they landed the villagers could be seen waving and cheering at them. Astrid smiled and slid off Stormfly then reached her hand up to help her passenger down to ground level. Snotlout set down the suit over by the black smith/iron works. Leaving fibber to have questions on the piece of mass metal. Some of the villagers even noticed the strange woman and were staring or st least observing her.
Abigail had fallen asleep as she rested against Astrid, while they flew. Once they got close to home though she woke up and sees the villagers waiting for them. Yep, definitely the dark ages she is in. She is helped down and goes to her suit while gets help putting it on a table and ignoring the looks she is getting.
“Okay, so let me see the tools you guys have,” she looks over the tools the village has and sighed. “Well, it’s something. Although, it will take me a while to fix the suit with these tools. If only I have a blowtorch to go with this.”
Astrid followed close behind. She watched her eye over everything in the hut and start talking to herself out loud.
The blonde however raised her brow at the idea of a blow torch. “What is a blow torch?” She asked Abigail. As she asked she waved off the villagers so the woman could talk to Astrid in piece. She’d left the other riders with hiccup on the edge so it was just her. She’d even sent Snotlout home to the Edge already.
Abigail turns to Astrid when she heard her talking to her. All while noticing the villagers leaving, which was good since she hates people looking at her while she works. “Just a tool where I have flammable liquid inside a container, ignite it to make fire, and even control the flames to help when I am working with metal.”
She finished explaining as she sees a container nearby and some tools needed for her to make a blowtorch. “I don’t suppose you got some flammable liquid I can use right?”
Astrid listened to her explain it and she laughed when she noticed the woman start to look for parts to make the alleged Blowtorch.
But as Abigail spoke up, Astrid pushed her finger to the woman’s lips. “Why are you making things so hard?” She asked. She had Stormfly come on vet and she smiled. Petting the dragon some, “Okay Stormfly. Give me a concentrated flame” she requested and the dragon without question followed the instructions. Almost Perfectly imitating a blowtorch. “There’s this instead. Less work” she said.
“Less work for the person, but I bet its more work for the dragon who has to concentrate on the heat,” said Abigail who wasn’t all in for using animals to do work for her. “I also like doing things my way,” she replied as she managed to make the blowtorch, but needs some fuel for it. “So, do you guys have flammable liquid for this?”
Stormfly closed her mouth and bowed her head almost sadly and went behind Astrid and nuzzled her. Astrid sighed “Only from a monstrous nightmare can you get a flammable liquid or gel. like what you’re asking for.” She explained. “And Snotlout is the one with that dragon” She said to her.
“Hmm is that so?” Abigail turns to Astrid as she grabs her invention. “I don’t suppose I can convince him to let me borrow his dragon to get the liquid I require right?” she asked while also hoping he will provide her what she needs without asking for anything else in return.
Astrid shrugged, “depends on how you convince Snotlout. Though he’s not the brightest.” She spoke with a small laugh. Watching her grab her invention she moved out of her way and pointed in the direction to go. “Do you need me to come with you?” She asked.
Abigail chuckles a little. “Sounds like I can get him to help out then,” she then sighed as she looks around the village. “I guess I could use a hand to show me around the island. I’ll be here for a good while so I will need to know where everything is at. If you don’t mind helping me?”
She nodded and swung her head on the direction they’d start in. She began walking, “I don’t mind helping. Snotlout is a piece of work and Berk is simple to maneuver through as long as you know where everything is first.” She explained to her
“Well, since I am here for a good while I will need to know then where everything is,” said Abigail as she looks around the village, which despite being in the century they are in looks like it was constructed well. “Thanks for doing this by the way. I appreciate your help. Also sorry for not asking your dragon for help. I prefer using my own hands to do my work.”
Astrid shrugged, “it’s not for everyone. It’s nice they help us out and we help them out. There’s a lot of team work between dragon’s and humans. At least here. We’ve got other islands similar to this with allies.” She paused. She could easily spot the Jorgenson house not too far away from where they walked.
“To think we used to kill dragon’s. Just within the last 4-5 years we’d stopped.” She added as she continued to walk.
“Really?” Abigail was wondering how these people got to work well with dragons and what happened before then. “What happened? Did someone befriend a dragon and soon taught everyone you guys could all live together in harmony?” she asked just guessing what happened.
Astrid looked at the woman with an expression of concern. “Okay. How did you know that?” She asked with concern and defense in her voice.
Mildly a creepy thought she managed to guess the whole thing right on the nose.
Abigail turns to her and sees the conerned look on her face. “Would you believe it was a lucky guess?”
She sighed as she knew that would not be enough with this girl. So, she told her how she figured it out. “You told me before you guys used to kill dragons. I figured something or someone came around to help change all of that. Helped see how both sides could live in harmony and work together. Something that I have seen happen back in my world where two sides who didn’t like each other ended up helping each other.”
She began chuckling a little at how it reminded her of how her father and the other heroes came together when at the time they almost tore each other apart.
Astrid was about to speak up but as Abigail explained her reasoning for knowing Astrid relaxed her shoulders. Lowering them and her expression went from concern to almost apologetic.
“So what is your supposed world Like?” She asked her. If she is from a different world she might as well take the time to get to know about Abigail and her world since there wasn’t much else Abigail could do
Abigail chose her words carefully since she didn’t want to seem rude with what she will say as she looks around the village. “Well, a little more advance than this one. It is also a world where we don’t have dragons to ride on. We have some, but they are kept hidden since there are humans in our world that are not ready to accept them.”
That and she knew they would hunt them down for sport. “Our world is also in peace after my father and his friends worked to help save it many times. He then left it up to the new generation like myself to help maintain that peace.”
Astrid thought it was quite interesting where she’d come from. “I know our chief Hiccup, has convinced or persuaded people to accept dragon’s for several years now. Maybe you need someone like him” She said to her. They were nearing Snotlout.
Snotlout himself looked up at the ladies, “What do you want Astrid?” He said in a snarky tone whilst crossing his arms for added effect.
“Well, we already do and he is someone who found ways to bring two worlds together to work as one,” said Abigail as they go the home of this Snotlout where he saw them. “I asked her to bring me here to speak with you. I would like to borrow your dragon to help me with my invention,” she said showing the item she made earlier and explained what she needs from the dragon. “So, mind helping me out?”
Astrid laughed some. Snotlout huffed. “Let me guess. More of MY MONSTOROUS NIGHT-“ Hookfang nudged him, “Okay, OUR-“ he got nudged again only with a growl added on to it. “OKAY JEEZ…..” he said with disdain. “Stupid Hookfang” he mumbled. “So you want some of Hookfangs Gel…..if he lets you then sure.” He said and stepped out of the way. Astrid looked at Snotlout and nodded. Then at Hookfang. Who seemed to bow and lay down without any hassle. To let them near him.
Astrid took Abigail’s hand and pulled her closer. She used both their hands and pressed onto hookfangs scales helping the monstorous nightmare gel seep from his pores. “Here you go” she said and glanced at the woman with a soft smile.
Abigail turns to the dragon and sees he is letting her near him. She then felt Astrid’s hand take hers and moves it to be place on the dragon. She didn’t mind touching the dragon to get its trust. What didn’t prepare her was how soft Astrid’s hand was on her own hand.
She shook her head to refocus on the task at hand. She begins petting the dragon softly as she took out her invention. “Thank you,” she said to Astrid as she goes to get what she needs. “And thank you, Hookfang for your help.”
Astrid smiled at her trying to focus. When they’d finished up, Astrid pulled her hand back and smiled at Abigail and then to Hookfang. Who seemed to nuzzle Abigail in joy and appreciation. Somewhat gurgling something to her. Snotlout huffed, “Hookfang. Ya done yet?” He said in his usual over the top attitude. Somewhat envious of Abigail but not like that wasn’t normal.
Astrid took a few steps back, “so you eat plenty of the gel?” She asked her, she leaned onto one hip.
