parents: what did you do today
me: nothing
parents: wELL OBVIOUSLY YOU DID SOMETHING!!! DID YOU JUST LOOK AT A *WALL* ALL DAY????????
me: to be frank i did many things but you and I both know that you know very little about my interests and I know that you don’t particularly care to learn about them and I don’t have the mental capability to put up with you dismissing the things that make me happy so for the sake of brevity and my emotional well being: i did nothing
THIS.
Thank you for putting it in words
This is true no matter how old you get, too. I’m nearly 60, and it’s STILL true.
Story time!
I used to be very obsessed with demons and demonic culture almost to the point I considered joining an occult. My parents, though repulsed by this stuff, still took the time to pretend to be interested.
It takes 0 effort to at least pretend to listen to something your child is interested in! And trust me, even though I knew they weren’t listening I still value the fact they tried!
