Jack was surprised at how easily she gave in and he looked at her “Really?” He stood up and walked down “Then you and I have a lot to talk about. First.. your men need to leave. We cant ride a boat to the sea. But your dragon might be able to pull them to the edge of the ice… But your men need to take an oath not to tell anyone about this place. We dont want dragon hunters to find this place.”

He nudged his head and the guards lifted her to her feet “Do you agree to my terms?” His face had gone serious and his features was pale and cold. Jack had not been a ruler for long, but he was a pretty strong one at that.

Astrid had been stirring all night so far. She’d had a nightmare and sat up gasping for breath. Leaned over and hugged her arms.

It took a few moments before she remembered where she was. Locked in a room in a village Chief’s home, in a village she was unaware ya existed till a day late. She hear something outside the walls of her confinement of her room.

Under Astrids window by the wall of the first floor was a tray of water. And a bucket. Jack walked over to it and filled the bu ket before he threw it all over his own head. The blood on his face thinning slowly. Then he pulled his clothes off. Leaving him in just his trousers.

Jacks skin was pale. Almost white. And on his back, reaching from the back of his neck the his lower back was gray tattoos. In the moonlight jack looked almost lile a grost as he washed the red off his white skin. And his Pale blue eyes almost seemed to shine.

This islands rulers had been rumored to come from dragons themselves. As all of them had this odd pale look uppon them.

Jack finished up the cleaning and grabbed his clothes now soaked and started to walk into the house and up the stairs, still mumbling. He walked down the hall to the last door, opened it and closed it hard. Then everything went quiet.

Astrid was awakened fully at the sound of water outside her window. She poked out of it and saw what looked to be….the Chief. She had a look of concern but chose not to question or disturb him. Who knows what he might’ve been doing.

She watched in curiosity as he washed his body. He was so pale. His hair so white, it was almost mystical in a sense. But before she knew it he was redressing. She watched him leave and she pulled back from the window. A minute r so passed and she heard his door slam. She jumped.

The rest of the night she sat in the chair by the window. She got comfortable in the chair and slowly fell asleep next to the fire and fireplace

when the morning broke and the sun rose up over the ocean, a knock on Astrids door filled the room and the sound of the key unlocking the door. A soft creek of the hinches and a head poking in “miss? are you awake? we have some breakfast for you if you’d like it”

a servant girl, not more tham sixteen stood in the door with a tray of food and some fresh milk.

Astrid was already awake She was sitting in the chair she’d already fixed herself up and had readjusted her clothes. Still wearing the same blue dress and winter clothing she’d worn yesterday but this time she’d rewrapped her arms in their furs and twine. And put on her hood and shoulder pads.

She looked at the girl and noticed she was young. She stood and gave a calm and warm smile to her.

She then stood up and walked over to the girl. “Thanks.” She said and she looked her over. “Where is the Chief?” She asked her curiously. She had some questions about last night.

The girl had soft brown hair in a side braid and simple clothing. She sat the tray at a table and looked up

“The chief is still in bed. I will be going to tend to him once im finished here with you. Would you like me to tske your clothes to be washed miss…? umm… i did not catch your name”

She looked at her, “if you must then sure. But I can wash them myself too” she said to the young woman. At hearing her she looked back at the girl.

“I am Astrid Hofferson….” she spoke and bowed her head briefly. Then when she looked up. “Thank you for the food” she added an walked towards the rest of food
