Astrid had been patrolling on an island not far from berk. When suddenly she saw something….appear? It was almost dragon like. But something was off. She’d already. Landed and was watching the creature closely from away.
Snotlout had just finished talking with hiccup and the medics and complaining about them having to put a new cast on him. When he noticed Ben stirring some and moved over towards him. “Ben? how ya doing? Feel any pain? can I do anything to help you?” he asked his boyfriend.
Astrid had already begun to wake the world was fuzzy around her. After a few long seconds she suddenly tried to shoot up into a sitting position but found that to be more painful then she’d anticipated.
Snotlout looked over at her, and so did Fishlegs and the Twins. She fell back down onto the med and the medic rushed over. “Mrs Haddock, you have to relax. Your body is dealing with a lot right now and you need to lay down.” he started telling her, “Now with the blood loss you took and the stress and some of the bruises you gained from being attacked….it’s in your best interest, that you remain on bedrest for the remaining 5 months of your pregnancy.” He stated. “It’s the best and least stress inducing option for both you and the twins.” He added.
The room seemed to go silent at the mention of “Twins”. Astrid sighed, she hadn’t really told Hiccup and Valka in the best way and now everyone else knew too. She waited for reactions.
“ Can you help me sit up a bit. My back is really bothering me.” Ben groaed as he weakly tried to sit up. During the fight one of the speed stingers managed to sting him and the medic was able to create an antidote. But Ben was really weakened from his injuries and the after effects of the venom. The other riders walked up to Astrid congratulating her on news of the twins. Hiccup nods in understanding towards the medic as he listened.
Snotlout was in shock, “Twins….go figure” he mumbled. He however still helped his boyfriend to sit up. Holding his lower back careful to avoid the wounds. “Better?” He asked him.
Astrid looked up at everyone. “Thank you guys.” She spoke and gave a smile. She looked at Hiccup and then the Medic, “No helping no work nothing? I’m going to go stir crazy!” She looked at them. The medic looked at Hiccup, “Can we speak alone?” He asked him and guided him outside to talk. Astrid huffed at them. However enjoyed the conversation with others.
“ Yeah a lot better, just really tired. “ Ben complained a bit as he leaned against Snotlout, the medication the doctors used for his operation was making him really tired. The hero was struggling to stay awake as Iona came bounding into the room warbling softly.“ Hey I’m sure Hiccup will bring you reports or something.” Ruffnut tried to joke with Astrid. Hiccup followed the medic outside worried for what the doctor had to say.
Snotlout held his boyfriend up as Iona came in. “You’ll just have to learn to sleep on your side and stomach for a while” He spoke helped Iona get onto the bed to sit in Ben’s lap.
Astrid gave a small chuckled at Ruffs joke but still wasn’t overly thrilled about being bed ridden.
The medic looked at Hiccup, “So you can relay this to Astrid when everyone is gone. I figured we needed to keep this between just us and her.” The medic looked at him. “Astrid and the babies are going to be fine. If, she stays off her feet, she can walk for little things such like bathing and stretching or walking if she needs it…..” He then paused for a moment, “moving around too much or too much stress and it could cause the wound to reopen or to harm the babies. Or Herself, too much stress could even trigger her to go into labor early….so you must be careful” he warned Hiccup with a stern but solemn tone.
“Yeah I guess so,” Ben hummed softly as he pets Iona’s ears, his daughter purring softly as she was mindful of Ben’s injured hand. She was happy both of her “dads” were safe and home. “ Honestly, I’m thinking the hunters must of known about the Omnitrix if they kenw to break my hand so I wouldn’t be able to use the Omnitrix. Smart on their part. I’ve never seen the new alien that wasa on the ship before. He must of given them intel.” Tuffnut looked up in concern as he listened to Ben. “ New Alien?” “Yeah, really spooky looking dude, said he was one of Vilgax’s generals.”
“Alright, I’ll be sure to tell her that tonight. But you know how stubborn she is and she won’t like taking no for an answer. “Hiccup ran his hand through his hair out of stress and habit. This was going to be a long five months.
Astrid heard Ben’s words and she slowly propped herself up a bit to look at him, “I feel we aren’t as safe as we would like to be. And they attacked us at our most vulnerable. Grabbing you and Snotlout in the forest.” She spoke and Fishlegs chimes in, “Don’t forget Astrid they waited till you were alone.” He added.
The blonde looked at them, “Before they stabbed me….” She paused a moment, “They had tried to kidnap me not injure me initially. But Hiccup and toothless dropped in in time that they resorted to harm instead of taking me hostage” she explained.
The medic looked at Hiccup, “Well I’m sure she’ll be understanding with it coming down to protecting the babies” he said simply before leaving Hiccup to go back into the tent.
The next few weeks after the ambush were quiet thankfully. Ben had healed from his wounds and his hand was healed up. Hiccup had told Astrid what the medic told him and had been bringing her books and reports for her to read. Once Ben was cleared by the doctor he was rigorously training with Hiccup and the other riders. He was currently in the former kill ring as he was engaged in hand to hand combat with Ruffnut and Tuffnut in his augmented armor learning how to fight against multiple enemies. He was definitely taking the training seriously as he was snapped out of it by Snotlout’s voice when he realized how close his blade was to Ruffnut head when he had pinned her under him. Ever since he had killed Vilgax his fighting during training had gotten more vicious.
Snotlout noticed how serious the fight had been getting as he noticed Ben get too close and risky with his weapon he yelled and hopped into the ring. “BEN! BEN STOP!” He exclaimed. He looked at Tuff, “Hey….you okay?” He asked then sighed as he looked at Ben. “Go take a five.” He spoke.
Astrid was laying in bed and growled in frustration. “That’s it! I can’t stay in this bed anymore!!!” She yelled and went to sit up. Throwing the furs, on her and Hiccup’s bed, off. She stood up and slipped on her boots. “I need to go outside” She spoke to herself.
Tuffnut brushed dirt off of himself as he looks up at Snotlout.” Yeah I’m fine, more worried about Ben though.” Ben nods subtly at his boyfriend as he exits the ring before he headed out towards one of the cliffs that surrounded Berk and sat down on the grass, taking his helmet off. Ben really looked tired and just not himself.
Hiccup had a few books in his arms for Astrid trying to stave her boredom off but when the door went flying into his face as Astrid went storming out he yelps in surprise before falling down.Snotlout sighed. “I’ll go talk to him” he said before leaving to find Ben on the cliff side. He was now officially out of the cast and back in working order. He saw the exhaustion on Bens face, “you haven’t been sleeping lately….” he spoke from behind him.
Astrid noticed she’d hit Hiccup, turning around she gasped “I’m sorry babe…..I didn’t mean to knock you over!” She spoke. She then crouched down holding a hand on the door and a hand on her much larger baby bump and started to pick books up. “I can’t just lay in bed. I’m going crazy!” She spoke to him. Breathing out deeply as she reached for a book a bit out of reach of her initial grasp.
“ I’ve been having Nightmares recently. They’ve been happening ever since we were kidnapped by the hunters. I can’t fall asleep after having one.” Ben explained solemnly.
Hiccup gently pushed the book towards her so she could reach it as he picked himself up. “ Hey it’s okay. Only a few more weeks till the twins are here. You remember what the doctor told us. You can’t stress yourself out or you could go
Into early labor.She picked it up and looked at him as she slowly stood. “I know. But we still have over 2 months left….I would think my body is plenty strong enough to handle walking around.” She spoke to him. Holding the books to her chest. “How’s Valka doin with Stormfly?” She asked Hiccup.
Snotlout sighed and rubbed Ben’s shoulder, “Maybe you need to talk it out. After killing Vilgax and going through everything we did it’s so much” he spoke to him. “It couldn’t have gone any other way really. He wasn’t someone we’d faced before he’d have done anything and everything to harm us to harm Berk.” He said simply.
“Valka been doing really well, but she says its clear Stormfly still misses you though,” Hiccup helped put the books way by their bed for Astrid. He looked over at the two small cribs that were set up for the arrival of their twins. Valka had given the expecting parents two incredibly soft fur blankets and a couple of stuffed toys made in the shape of their respective dragons. He was getting more excited but also more anxious as the due date for their twins arrived ever closer.
“ Yeah your right, I just can’t figure out why I’m getting them now. “ Ben looked out over the cliff face watching the sea gulls and some of the wild dragons flying on the afternoon winds. “ I’m going to go flying later. Might help clear my head a little.”
Astrid caressed the baby bump. “I can’t wait for the babies. One to have them in my arms and two I can’t wait to fly again!” She spoke with frustration and excitement. She walked around the house and looked over at Hiccup, “I can’t just lay around anymore….I’m going stir crazy Hiccup.” She spoke.
Snotlout looked over at Ben, “Do you want me to join or do you want this for yourself?” He asked solemnly. Looking at Ben noticing his seemingly distracted attention.
“ Actually I would really enjoy your company,” Ben smiled over at Snotlout. Ben was distracted because the nightmares would replay sometimes during the day. Flashes of him and Snoutlout on the ship when they were kidnapped but with Ben dying at the claws of the Speedstingers and getting killed by them. A while later Ben was in his Nightfury form flying around Berk with Snotlout and Hookfang doing their afternoon patrol.
“ I know, I can’t wait to introduce our children to our dragons.” Hiccup placed his hand over her bump as he smiled feeling the babies kicking sensing their father nearby. Toothless was sitting by the door as he cooed softly.
Snotlout kept peering over at his boyfriend. He was worried though he didn’t want to point it out. He then turned back to face forward. They had gotten more efficient and thorough about their patrols to protect everyone.
Astrid looked over at Toothless, “Do you want to feel my stomach too toothless?” She asked the dragon. And then looked up at Hiccup. “You know I’ll kill you if you take them flying.” She spoke to him. “No flying for them til they’re old enough to walk….at the earliest.” Astrid added. Though they had made plans to let the twins choose when they were old enough their own dragons.
