Open Starter – Jinx Abernathy, fallen from the heavens

It’s 2 am, A redhead led woman wandered weakly down the street of the city. Her white shirt torn and covered in dirt. Her pants frayed at the bottom. Bare foot and hair a tangled mess. She almost collapsed and leans against a building wall, her back clearly wounded.

Luke was on an evening walk when he saw the woman leaning against the wall. he saw things like that all the time, drunk people vomiting in back alleys in the middle of the night, but when he came closer he noticed she was different. “hey, are you ok…?” he started walking faster towards her.

The red head looked over at the man as he seemed to walk closer. “I-I’m not from here. You wouldn’t understand” the woman spoke before she collapsed against him. Her back bleeding intensely

Luke picked her up with a pair of strong hands and tried to think about his options. ‘what does she mean….?’ he looked at her and then decided a hospital isn’t an option; if she is like him, he better take her somewhere else.

he decided to take her to his penthouse apartment. his rules were simple; a complete separation between Luke’s life and X’s. when he passed by the receptionist in the lobby he started to say something but when Luke raised his hand he stopped. “don’t worry bill, just too drunk”. bill nodded and he went with the unconscious red head to his apartment. the sofa was covered in blood seconds after he laid her down on her stomach. ‘first, vodka’ Luke took some from his kitchen and poured just a bit on her wounds. it was part of a homemade treatment he saw on tv. the second part was harder ‘a lighter will do’ thought to himself and set fire to the wounds, quickly

extinguishing it with his bare hands.

Jinx fell unconscious. It felt only brief though when her eyes opened she saw a man carrying her. She grumbled and tried to speak but after tonight she was a bit to weak for her own good.

As colors and lights changed and flashed it didn’t help with her dizziness. She knew she’d heal quickly but even for a wound like this it’d take a day or two.

She fell unconscious again, but was rudely awakened as she felt fire singeing and searing through her wounds she woke up and she screamed in pain. Gripping the frantic of the couch. Though as the blood had washed off as he’d poured the alcohol on her wounds it exposed her wounds to be two large long lines diagonally spanning from the top of her shoulders to the outer section of her mid/lower back. Almost as if an upside down V.

seeing the woman moving he tried to sound gentle and relaxing “you are safe; i had to burn your wounds, to stop the bleeding. how… how did this happen to you?”

“You wouldn’t understand…..” She rasped our as she tried to sit up but the pain still seared through her spine and she slid back onto her stomach on the couch. “….why are you helping me?” She asked her facial expression laced with pain.
