A few resources I’ve found useful, from one “baby witch” to another.
Hey! Hows it going? First off when i say “baby witch I MEAN IT! I’ve only been on my journey into the Craft about a month or so. I’m not really great at this so please bare with me. Here goes nothing in this post I’m going to (attempt) to talk about some resources that I have found to be invaluable in my journey so far.
My #1. problem was finding information (outside of tumblr) and I know what you are thinking that there is tons of info out there on witchcraft, wicca, paganism and the like and you are not wrong BUT personally I did not find what I was really needing I did find some info from a historical standpoint but what I was looking for was more like something like an “inside scoop” from the point of view of someone in the Witch community not from someone standing on the outside looking in and when I did find something closer to what I was looking for it was more people’s opinions on the subject rather than just plain old Info (DIACLAIMER! I HAVE NOT BY ANY MEANS SEARCHED EVERY ONLINE RESOURCE AVAILABLE) also little sidenote I’m in no way trying to belittle or invalidate any one who chooses to glean from online sources or anyone who runs or operates an online page this is specifically to those who are like minded and prefer book over online anyways back on track I was getting discouraged trying to find what I need and what suits me but I decided to look around my local book stores and new age(ish) stores ie. Barnes & Noble, Earthbound, Books-a-million ect. and found quite a surprising collection and so on to my main point I would like to share a few of the little gems I’ve found and purchased so far.
1.
This little beaut is chock full of the basics it has answered SO many questions it’s been a lifesaver for me it’s like the kindergarten textbook for baby witches it’s covers the who, what and how of witchcraft, wicca/paganisim as well as altars, magical tools, what is and how to: magic circles, ritiuals, spells, the wheel of the year and even tips on joining/forming a coven.
2.
It’s all in the name isn’t it? But anyways this has came in handy for me I bought this with my first Tarot deck (just a classic rider-waite) and it gives a fairly detailed description/explanation of each card starting with the first 12 cards of the major arcana followed by the final 10 major cards then moves to the four suits and aces next the minor arcana 2 – 10 and then the court cards and it gives several suggested tarot spreads as well as real-life readings to use for examples it is perfect for the baby witch just getting their feet wet in divination and tarot work and it’s very comprehensive written for a beginner level practitioner.
3.
I haven’t gotten around to reading this through but it seems to follow the reoccurring theme for a beginner level it’s starts with a little bit of history and explains what chakras are and what they do.
4.
Again haven’t gotten around to reading this through but from what I’ve skimmed it’s a pretty good read easy to understand and absolutely perfect for us beginners/baby witches that really want to get a good understanding of the basics
5.
This covers a little bit of everything including practical magic in everyday life, witchy tool kits, angels, Ouija/Spirit boards, the moon in magic, candle magic and spells some tech magic stuff, wish boxes, pouches and herbs, crystals, and psychic abilities and divination.
6.
This is a personal favorite it covers so many little but very important things like history and folklore of magical herbs and spices, healing, spells, aromatherapy, crystals, ritiuals and spells, spirituality, spiritual alchemy, brews, potions, teas and tinctures, folk remedies from around the world, kitchen witchcraft and even recipes for sabbats which I’m particularly enjoying with Mabon right around the corner.
