A forgotten Storybrooke
It was a dark day in story brooke, storm clouds covered the sky making daytime seem like night. No sun would shine today, but for the folks of storybrooke this seemed to be a sign of ominuous currents heading their way. Though things seemed gloom, nothing entirely was wrong especially in grannys diner- even though only emma swan and a few others were sitting at the counter.
one girl sat apart from the small crowd, tucked away in the corner- sitting in the booth across from ruby. Her hair was damp from the rain which could still be heard beating down on the rooftop. Two plates were in the center of the booth table, one had a sirloin steak with mashed potatoes for a side and the other which was closer to the girl with damp hair only contained a single large t-bone steak extea rare- just for her.
“ This smells delicious.” Her stomach growled, aching for it to be filled. It had been well over two days since she had a fresh warm meal. Ruby had scolded her for doing so, but she was to anxious to enter the dinner alone- and she would not let ruby make shift her plans with dorothy just for her sake.
“Come on era, you gotta eat. It won’t bite- not like is anyway” Ruby let out a small sigh followed by a light laugh as she pulled her plate closer to her, digging her fork into the mashed potatoes
“I know it won’t bite. It’s just…I can’t shake my dreams away today” She poked the steak with her nail which grew to be an inch longer and more crystal in color- shaping to look more of a claw than a nail. “Before coming here..I had little memory. Now I have dreams that..I can’t explain.” She proded harder, jabbing her nail into the steak until it was leaking red. She sighed in agitation, glancing up only when she felt ruby’s eyes pierce yellow.
“Era, you know what I’ve told you. There was a curse placed here..that affected everyones memories- though the curse is broken, perhaps it is still affecting you.” She spat out softly looking her in the eyes, hoping her words would prove some comfort.
“ I know..you told me this plenty of times before..but it doesn’t help ease anything…I feel like I keep searching for something-” She was quickly cut off by ruby speaking up.
“Or someone. You’ve told me of this dream before, you smaller..perhaps younger than you are now- with a figure tending to a wound. Something with piercing eyes and a ice cold touch. Your searching for someone you don’t have a memory of. Let’s not forget you have many other memories, it’s not like you forgot who you are.” She wiggled her nose, finishing up her mashed and cutting into the sirloin.
Era growled low and soft under her breathe, and unlike ruby who was cutting her steak- she picked up her’s by the bone and took a huge chunk out of it gulping down hard to ignore the emberassment at being scolded. “Yess Yes. I haven’t forgotten most things..just things like..whoever she was”
Ruby raised a brow after swallowing a few pieces of her steak. “She? So it’s a She now.” Ruby smirked and gave her a little wink which made her cheeks light up a light red.
“Oh don’t you..you..” She flustered for words and then let out a huff before taking another big bite, blood dribbling down her lip which she felt and quickly licked up. “I’m pretty sure it’s a she..but I can’t recall anything else.” By the time She was done talking Ruby had cleared her plate, and She chomped down a few more bites until there was only bone left.
“Well it seems were both satisfied for now, maybe we should..start asking- or perhaps introducing you to more people. Perhaps someone could help us with your memories” Ruby put her plate underneath Era’s with the forks and knives ontop. “Lets go, I have a place where you can stay too, I’m always at dorothy’s anyways” she replied with a wicked big smile, and they both rose from the booth and headed for the door.
Elsa on a trip back to Storybrooke, Anna had sent her on a vacation from the stresses of the kingdom. And so she was staying at Swan’s place.
She was hitting the library and picking some stuff to read to help pass time. After picking a few and checking them out. Belle letting her borrow them without a card. Then started walking back to Emma’s place. Wearing a simple icy blue sundress and a oversized white knit sweater on top and a pair of simple sandal wedges as she passed by the diner she caught a glimpse of a new face in the diner next to ruby. Seemed familiar. Too familiar. But she shook her head and kept walking passed.
Where should we start….“ Ruby licked the bottom of her lip, pondering for a moment before looking back at her friend. ‘Rumple’s antique shop should do. They have everything there.”
“Rumple’s place?” She sighed in frustration, the name rolled of her tongue in a unfamiliar fashion. “What kind of name is that..” she mumbled under her breathe. She bite down on her tongue and followed ruby, tailing right behind her. Stopping short when Ruby stalled and she had to look up to see a sign that said mr gold’s antique shop. “Mr. Gold?”
“Yes, well..thats his shop. His names rumple. Dont get them mixed up..now when we go inside, don’t touch anything. Who knows what voodoo magic can be stored in here” She said with alittle laugh in her voice which made Era worry.
“Okay, fine but..can we-” she blinked- within moments ruby was already in side and she quickly darted in after her. Once inside, there was so much stuff her eyes were pratically glowing from the excitement. Everything had a place but to her, it just seemed like a bunch of clutter. clutter treasure..they even have a statue of..of a fox? Nono the ears are wrong. Wolves dont look like that.. she thought to herself and scoffed.
At the front of the store stood rumple behind the register. His eyebrow was raised in question and Ruby was already informing him if the situation. “Ahh..yesss yes deary.” He replied to ruby quick and sharp but his eyes never left the girl wondering the store. His voice suddenly grew louder, out of excitement or annoyance no one could tell. “Come, Deary. Names Era right? Let me have a look at you..”
Her slightly pointed ears shot up at the sound of her name and she spun around fast on full alert. Within moments though, Rumple had already made a circle around her and stopped with a click of his finger. “What the..”
“So you, not born of this world but don’t belong in the next lost your way? Little foxy are you..” He raised a brow waiting for her to analyze him.
She growled low, at once her eyes flashed a more brighter lit amber gold- her nails grew to a fine point once more. She felt threatened in a way she wasnt sure of, but his stature wasn’t offending nor demanding.
“My my, what a little feisty animal you are. Lost your memory, looking to find it?” He clicked his tongue.
For a moment she thought about lunging him, but something about him made her withdrew. Her eyes dimmed down, and her claws retracted and for a second she thought of apologizing but his voice was oddly annoying. “So you know of me? Or are you fooling me? In any case..I guess I am more of a fox than anything..” she pondered for a moment and nodded, his earlier words agitated her but she was in no position to start a fight with possibly a creature that could be well stronger than her.
“So..fierce yet unsure. I’m not fooling ya deary. Simply a business man with a few kicks. Now, let us talk of..your memory reduction.”
Elsa was still unfamiliar with Storybrooke. It was all so weird and so different. The clothes, the mannerism, the politics. But at least here she wasn’t worried about running her Kingdom. It was as stressful as it could get.
As she got to Emma’s apartment she dropped off her books and then went to her bag in the guest bedroom. As she rumeged through she found the box. The box was engraved with a fox. And inside it’s beautiful wooden details was a necklace. Beautiful yes. But Elsa could hardly remember why. She was having issues remembering.
Though the fox on the box reminded her of a friend she once knew. A friend she’d helped to heal back in Storybrooke there was a lot of pieces missing. And it frustrates her. Hardly a remembrance on the woman’s appearance and name. But when she looked at the box she missed her friend. And with that she took the box placing it in a bag and began to walk to Mr.golds. Probably stop by the diner for something first though.
It was a odd silence between the three of them- Era not speaking a word and ‘Mr.Gold’ simply waiting rather patiently for her to speak. Though it wasn’t long before Ruby spoke up stating she would be going to the dinner to take dorothy to lunch. “I’ll be back later, just don’t get into to much trouble while I’m gone Era. And Mr.gold, you harm her in anyway..and I will come back with torches” She added before dashing out the door, her red cape flowing behind her.
“Alright… Mr..Gold” She spoke atleast, the words were forced out of her mouth. “Let’s just get this under way, I’d much rather-” Her words were cut off.
“-Be in the forest right now?” He chuckled. “I know a thing or two about magic when I see it. But your magic is quite.. different then mine.” He seemed intrigued by her but she was just in aww. Not understanding a single word he meant. “Let’s take this in the back room shall we? I have a table we can sit at. We shall chat for a while deary. see if We can.. make a deal- or at the very least see if I can even help you”
With that she nodded, Mr gold gesturing for her to follow.
*******Ruby wasn’t paying attention as she darted down the street- zipping past Emma swan and giving her a gentle nod, but as she was running she was caught of guard by tall woman in a icy blue dress carrying a bag. Instead of running into the woman- she stopped on her heel too quick and took a tumble while nearly knocking the other woman other. “Oh, oww..” she groaned, landing on her elbows to keep herself from falling face flat on the pavement.
The blonde In her casual, and more normal looking, sundress was suddenly taken out by the speeding Ruby. Elsa had been nearly spun a full 180 before falling backwards onto the pavement. She hit her head some causing her hat to fly off and away. And the bag she carried to land on her lap.
Elsa groaned and slowly raised herself to a sitting position. Not quite realizing what all had happened she mumbled, “What on earth….. owe….” she winced realizing she had a small lump on her head from falling. Emma stopped in her tracks as the situation unraveled and rushed to help Ruby up first then slowly but diligently help Elsa up, “Hey ruby. We might want to get the Ice Queen and ice pack” she said both with seriousness and also a little joke to lighten the mood. Elsa nodded in agreement. “I’d appreciate that…” she said to them.
Ruby gladly took Emma’s hand with a smile. “Good seeing you Emma, now..ice queen….” She rubbed the dirt off her knees and looked over at the girl she stumbled into it. “Oh! I’ve heard of you haven’t? ” Ruby crossed her arms thinking long and hard. “Oh yes! I’ve seen you here before.” She unfolded her arms and from the satchel she had around her shoulders she pulled out a bottle of water and a cloth. “This is no ice pack but..if what emma here says was true, you can create ice right?” She said half jokingly and dabbed the bottle ovee the cloth until the cloth was damp. She spun the cover back on and placed it back in the satchel then folded the cloth until it was in a square shape. “I’m so sorry. I was just coming from Mr.gold’s shop with a friend till I was going to meet dorothy for lunch” she said sheepishly, her cheeks being alittle red at the thought of her girlfriend.
She held out the cloth for Elsa, offering it with a light smile. “I didn’t mean to make you fall..” she shook her head before noticing emma. “Oh, and I know what you are about to say. I should introduce you to..her. but, she’s..very new. Now from where I’m from-” she paused for a second. “Actually maybe you can help. Just don’t be mad okay?”
Elsa held the cloth to her head. “I was heading to Golds shop. I have something for him to look at” She explained. She took the cloth and put it to her mouth. Blowing on it She cause the water in the cloth to freeze and she placed the pack on the back of her head, “it’s fine. I should’ve been paying attention too” she said and Emma held her should making sure she was okay.
Swan looked at Ruby. “What do you need help with?” She asked her and looked at her with a raised brow. “And I wasn’t going to say anything so just tell me what I can or need to do” she said to Ruby and Elsa gave a hesitant smile to Ruby.
Ruby felt guilt ridden at both of their words, but watching Elsa she couldn’t help but be amazed. “Sorry Emma..and to you Elsa. I just know how you are sherrif when strangers come into town.” She choked on her words but shrugged it off, taking out a small vial from inside her satchel. “I was practicing on some healing remedy’s. Please take this Elsa. It will rid you of any ailments instantly. Just plug your nose when you swallow. It..doesnt smell very good. But least you cannot taste it”
She handed the vial to her before looking back to emma. “My friend, she..she may be affected by the curse you broke emma- or something. She can’t remember pieces of her memory the moment she got into town.” She looked to Elsa with a raised brow. “You are headed their too..feels like somethings fishy is going on”
As ruby finished her words, the door to mr.golds shop slammed open and shouting could be heard across the street.
“I refuse. Thats my final words! I will not hand it over” Era shouted back at the man who then shut the door with a loud bang. “Insufferable…” she pulled her fur cloak closer to her and put her hood up. She heeded Ruby’s words as to not be seen but she wasn’t about to wait in that shop any longer. She had declined Mr.gold’s offer of her ring in exchange for what she desired most; memory. She traced over the moon colored gem on her finger. Her special ring, the only essence and thing she had left. Made from the very ashes of her mother- made by her hand and the help of a blacksmith of course. “
Elsa took the vile and smiled gratefully at Ruby, “and it’s really okay. It happens” she said trying to make her feel better.
Swan nodded, “I will do what I can for your friend. As long as she is no trouble.” She said to her. She heard the commotion and turned to the shop, “Elsa, the shop is in that direction. You go on ahead. Just don’t make any deals with the man. He’s still a little on edge from the last encounter. So be careful. And freeze him if you need” she said to try and be funny.
Elsa was about to speak up but Swan had already started to give her the directions to the shop. The ice queen nodded and with anxiousness filling her body. She tried to make her way to Rumples shop. Keeping her bag close by. She was there within minutes, finally finding it she walked up to the door and knocked before she stepped inside.
Ruby smiled back at Elsa taking her words with sincerity. “Okay, my queen” She let out a small laugh before turning to the commotion. “Speaking of my friend…that would be her. Mr.gold must have done something..” She choked out the word but she had no time. Era would have to be on her own. “I will be back but I really must go. I cannot keep dorothy waiting anylonger. Like a knight, I must keep my promises.” She winked and then nodded to them both. “Farewell for now, Elsa, emma. ”
She turned on her heal before pausing, looking over her shoulder to Enma. “Will you watch over her for me? Just until I return in the morning, She has a key to where Im residing but, I will be staying..at dorothy’s tonight. I did forget to mention that.” Her cheeks turned red abit. “She won’t be trouble, but..you know how the others treated me until you helped me with my..wolf problem"She smiled at Emma gleefully. “She would probably stay by Mr.gold’s shop till I return. Storybrooke makes her..weary. I wish she’d feel more at ease here. It is a quiet town afterall.” She turned around just then, pulling her red cloak around her and dashed off down the street heading towards the dinner.
Era had only walked towards the side of the building and slid down the cool wall, pulling her knees to her chest fiddling with her ring. She’d wait there, atleast till Ruby returned. She could find her way back if she chose too, but she chose not. “I’ll think about this…maybe strike up another bargain..I could..do anything right..?” She said aloud to herself pondering the thought. She could hear footsteps approaching and she tilted her head to the side, leaning over so her elbows were on the grass so she could see to where she was hearing them. The only thing she saw was a tall woman, with to her eyes- had near silver hear and a long icy blue dress. She swallowed hard as the woman entered the building. “Who..” her head danced around the thought and just to be alittle more sure, she closed her eyes, inhaling the scents around her. It caught her by suprise, but somehow she knows that scent- displaced and forgotten. But a scent she can not forget, but whatever it was..she had no recolation of it. She stood up, standing on the tips of her toes to see through the window. “ oh..now I’m being the stalkers.” She felt heat rise from her sides in the form of anxious guilt. “She’s so…familiar.” she could see more clearly, the woman had a single braid, that was tossed to the side of her neck, and a bag on her shoulder but she couldn’t keep her eyes off the woman’s dress. It seems..so well made, flawless even as if stitched by magic. She wanted to go inside..make some excuse to search for something else but her body froze, not looking away from the window.
Elsa walked in and the door set off a chime above her. It was quite dim inside. And it’d been a while since she’d been around the shop. As she venture in deeper, she bobbed her head up and down. Looking at every item within the seemingly oh so casual trinket shop. But part of her could feel the magic that radiated within the store.
“Mr. Gold?” She called out. Stepping carefully around the aisles and the things that hung from the ceiling. “Ah…..MR. GOLD” She huffed as she almost tripped. “I need you to look at something for me. I’m not here for much. Just need to know what this thing I have is” she explained our loud and clutched the bag closer to her body. Waiting for Gold to appeared.
